SUMMARY:ML Seminar: Benjamin Eysenbach - Seeing like an Empowered Agent
LOCATION:School of Social Work room 903
DESCRIPTION:Empowerment measures an agent’s ability to actively control
its environment. Appealing as an information theoretic quantity\, empowerm
ent is often juxtaposed with more geometric approaches to exploration\, su
ch as those that build a 3D model of the world. In this talk\, I’ll disc
uss recent results linking empowerment and geometry\, which provides an an
swer to a longstanding open question on the connections between empowermen
t and centrality. These results suggest new approaches to representation l
 earning\, exploration\, and information gathering\, which we demonstrate o
 n robotics benchmarks and open-ended games.\n\nhttps://cail.columbia.edu/e
