There are many ways to become part of CAIL, whether you want to pursue a PhD, are already a Columbia student looking to get into research, or represent a company or organization interested in working with us.

Prospective PhD students

Apply for a PhD

Doctoral admission at Columbia is run by each department, not by the lab. Apply to the department that best fits your research and name the faculty you would like to work with in your statement of purpose. Most doctoral deadlines fall in early-to-mid December for the following fall.

Not sure which department fits? Start with Columbia Engineering's graduate admissions and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Columbia Engineering graduate admissions ยท GSAS PhD programs

The best way to get involved in research is to find faculty whose work excites you and reach out. Browse our people, read a few of their papers or project pages, and email professors directly about research assistant positions, independent study, and course projects. A short, specific note about why their work interests you goes a long way.
